I found www.clotheslineproject.org to be very empowering. I loved how the use of art was somewhat of a get away to abused women. By putting their feelings down and out in the open i feel that this project will allow women to cope better and at some point be able to move past there violent past. In the book the girl constantly talked about needing protection, i found this very interesting when she said; " I longed for some one to confide in. I would have given the world to have laid my head on my grandmother's faithful bosom, and told her all my troubles". She just wants to feel loved but to also have someone who knows her pain and can help her get away even if its just for one second. This goes along with the Clothes Line Project because her grandmother would be somewhat of an outlet for her away from her pain. For the women of the Clothes Line Project there outlet is the artwork they do.

I thought that you made an interesting connection between the two pieces. I think your connection brings up the point that times have changed. Now, women are encouraged to be knowledgable and vocal about abuse. It is no longer something that is swept under the rug or ignored. I think it shows a somewhat equalization between genders. Women no longer fear the power of men. They feel safe speaking up and educating other women.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you in how great the use of art is to express their emotions. I think its a different and creative way to get your feelings out. I not only think words are a powerful outlet but I also think art is really an expressive and successful way to show what you are feeling.
ReplyDeleteI also notices this and the connection between the website and the piece...she wants someone to know what she is going through and she wants to have someone to confide in. i think the clothesline project would have been something she was looking for and its sad that she didnt have anyone to confide in. this is why there needs to be more available projects for people who dont have anyone to confide in they can look on the internet and get involved with people world wide who have experienced the same thing
